Landstracts
The landscape is so much more when seen from the air. Strapped to the back seat of a single engine plane, flying with the door off, I lean out and look down in awe. Photographing from a plane, as opposed to using a drone, frees me to devote all my attention to the images while the pilot takes care of the flying. I look for patches of landscape that move my aesthetic sensibility, often evoking to my eye the work of abstract painters. The resulting images are objective representations of the natural landscape yet not always immediately recognizable as such. My aim is not to document landmarks, but rather to draw the viewer into the visual joy of textures, shapes and color palettes, forced by the photographer to exist within the compositional constraints of the square format. This is Landstracts.
